Elemental Exploration: Earth

Today we are going to cover the element Earth. I know it corresponds with winter but I feel more connected to this element during the autumn the season of gratitude and abundance. It’s the season of abundance with activities like apple and pumpkin picking and it’s the season of Virgo when we are honoring ritual and nurturing. For me, these energies and the element of Earth go hand in hand.

The Earth Element

Earth is the element of abundance, growth, and natural cycles but it is also connected to stability, prosperity and everything in the physical realm. Working with Earth energy can help us stay grounded, focused, and better attuned to the natural world around us. We can also us symbols like the pentacle and plants or the colors green and brown in our sacred space to remind of the magic of earth.

Earth Gratitude Spell

Materials Needed:

  • A small bowl of soil or a handful of dry earth

  • A small stone, crystal or seeds

  • A quiet space outdoors

Instructions:

  1. Find a quiet, outdoor space like a garden, park, or balcony.

  2. Begin by standing barefoot on the Earth if you're outdoors. If you're indoors, sit comfortably and close your eyes. Take a few deep breaths and visualize roots growing from the soles of your feet (or from your seat if indoors) deep into the Earth. Feel yourself grounded and connected to the Earth's energy.

  3. Take the bowl of soil or dry earth in your hands, or allow the child to hold it. Say words of gratitude to the Earth.

  4. Hold crystal, stone, or seeds and infuse it with your gratitude and love for the Earth.

  5. Gently bury the stone or your hand in the soil, saying: "I offer this [stone/crystal/my love] to the Earth as a token of my gratitude."

  6. Stand or sit quietly for a moment, feeling the Earth's energy and the connection you've created.
